Amec Foster Wheeler today announces the award of a contract from Eskom Limited for the design, installation, procurement and commissioning of a state-of-the-art fire protection system at the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station, Cape Town, South Africa.

Under the three-year contract, the value of which has not been announced, Amec Foster Wheeler will provide a complete upgrade of the current fire protection system at the station.

The award confirms Amec Foster Wheeler as a key services provider to South Africa’s energy industry and builds on the work the company has undertaken at Koeberg, the country’s only nuclear power station, over the last 20 years.

“This is one of the largest fire engineering contracts to be awarded to our Clean Energy business in South Africa and further enhances our reputation with Eskom, the country’s largest energy utility company.”

“This vital project will not only enhance the safety of the station but will also help in developing our workforce, as we will be undertaking a training programme for engineering students, thereby boosting the local skills and expertise in the region.”
