The transformation of gardens at Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital, made possible by the fundraising efforts of Wood Group employees, is to feature on a popular BBC gardening programme.
In March 2014, we committed to raise £200,000 in support of The ARCHIE Foundation in their 10 step campaign to make the hospital a world-class facility for today and tomorrow’s sick children. The funds, which represent the biggest single sponsorship package ever received by the charity, will be used to renovate the reception and garden areas of the hospital.
The Beechgrove Garden has chosen to feature the development of the outdoor spaces as a 'community garden' in their next series which broadcasts this autumn.
The BBC programme's garden designer Kirsty McLean is currently working alongside a group of our employees and representatives from The ARCHIE Foundation on the design and creation of the garden.
Laura Wood, HSE advisor at Wood Group said: 'Being selected to feature on the Beechgrove Garden is a fantastic achievement. We are passionate about helping people in the communities we work in.
Employees from across the business, including experts from our creative services and real estate teams, are providing their artistic skills, knowledge and green fingers to develop the garden, which we believe will enhance the experience of sick children and their families during their time at the hospital.
Project director for The ARCHIE Foundation, Dave Tipping said: "It is so important that children attending hospital have as positive an experience as possible. Thanks to the fundraising and help of Wood Group employees we will soon have the sort of welcome which the children said they would like.
"It will be bright and colourful, welcoming, exciting and fun. It will also be much easier to access for people with limited mobility. We are delighted that the Beechgrove Garden team have chosen us for one of their community gardens too this year. Their input will help to make it amazing. This really will make a tremendous difference for every child visiting the hospital and for all their families too."
