"My time at Wood Group has been the most worthwhile experience I could have hoped for. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the company, in particular the early careers opportunities and what is in place for people like me coming out of school with aspirations to grow their career in the oil and gas industry."

These are the words of 17 year-old Grace Heyman, one of four school pupils who have gained valuable experience of the oil and gas industry through a five-week paid summer placement programme with Wood Group.

The students from the Aberdeen city and shire area were provided with a unique insight into their potential future career paths through our collaboration with Career Ready, a UK wide charity, which links 16-19 year olds to the world of work.

Under the mentorship of employees from across the business, the pupils were involved in projects that allowed them to test their communications, research and presentation skills.

Lauren Kay, Early Careers Advisor at Wood Group says: “This is the second year we have supported the Career Ready initiative by welcoming a group of school pupils through the doors of Wood Group for a placement, which provides a crucial insight into a potential career in the oil and gas sector.

“Our commitment is to creating a stimulating, fun and open work culture that promotes personal development for these young people. With that in mind, we provided the group of pupils with tangible projects, which gave them hands on experience and a true reflection of a team working environment, whilst also challenging them to use their own initiative and be innovative.”
