Reaching our 50th anniversary gives me an opportunity to reflect on what we have achieved over the last half century in Amec Foster Wheeler's Glasgow office.

I’m most proud of our people and the projects we have delivered over the years. The easiest part of my job is explaining to clients what we have accomplished and what we can deliver, knowing that our team will rise to any challenge. Historically, we have always been keen to collaborate with other offices and most recently I am extremely proud of the way we have reached out to build relationships within the new organisation.

Seeing clients come back time after time is rewarding. The high level of repeat business reflects the quality and cost effectiveness of the work we undertake in Glasgow. Clients such BP, PRL,Preem, Statoil, ExxonMobil and INEOS have returned many times over the years.

I think that people are most surprised about our global reach. During the last five decades, we have executed projects for locations as far afield as Eldoret in Kenya, Campinas in Brazil, St John’s in Canada, Urumqi in the remote Xinjiang Province of China, and Khabarovsk in the far east of Russia to name but a few. Currently, we are working on projects in Karachi in Pakistan and Area 47 in Libya. Closer to home, we have worked in countries such as Norway, Sweden, Austria and Belgium. In the UK, we have worked in plants from Peterhead to Pembroke and all stops in between.Remote workshare has also enabled us to work on projects in Australia, South Africa and Azerbaijan. Every location has its unique challenges to which our teams have adapted. This flexibility and agility has stood us in good stead over the last 50 years.

Do we have a secret to our successful longevity? We pride ourselves on our teamwork and open communication. We couldn’t do what we do without the professionalism and commitment of every member of the team. And the occasional get-together after work helps!
