Wood has been awarded a $54 million contract by the Flatiron/Lane joint venture as lead designer for the Washington State Department of Transportation’s (WSDOT) initiative to add express toll lanes to Interstate 405 from Renton to Bellevue.
The project will improve travel time and reliability for commuters on one of Washington’s most congested corridors. Connecting a 40-mile system of express toll lanes, the design-build project will add two auxiliary lanes and infrastructure to accommodate the new I-405 Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.

Major features of the upgrade include two new lanes, BRT infrastructure, local street improvements, as well as enhancements to bicycle and pedestrian routes. Construction is expected to commence in early 2020.
Wood will serve as the lead designer on this five-year contract providing environmental, roadway, structures and drainage design, design project management, geotechnical engineering and environmental compliance.
