WGMN teamed with Korean engineering, procurement and construction contractor Samsung Heavy Industries to provide detailed engineering support for the Valemon topsides, in addition to delivery of the flare boom and providing hook-up and commissioning assistance.
Fabrication of the topsides in South Korea was very successful as Otto Søberg, president of Wood Group Mustang Norway, explains: “The Valemon platform is the first to be delivered directly from a fabricator in Asia to installation offshore on the Norwegian continental shelf. This is a credit to the collaboration of the three teams. Safe, efficient hook-up was critical to bringing the platform on-line successfully.”
Valemon is the second Statoil-operated platform to be put into production in the last nine months, and will be Statoil’s first platform remotely controlled from shore. It will turn into a ‘normally unmanned platform’ when drilling on the field is completed in 2017.
