Amec Foster Wheeler announces today that its Porsche Cars North America Headquarters (PCNA)/Aerotropolis project was named the Grand Prize winner at the Georgia Engineering Awards, recognising its ability to work with clients to transform environmental liabilities into beneficial reuse for clients and their communities.

The firm provided environmental, engineering and construction services for Jacoby Development and PCNA to help transform the 130-acre former Ford Motor Company’s Atlanta Assembly Plant for use as the PCNA Headquarters. The project was also named the 2017 State Award winner in the environmental category.

The American Council of Engineering Companies of Georgia’s Engineering Excellence Awards recognises exceptional engineers and engineering projects from across the southeast USA. The Grand Prize winner was chosen from among the eight State Award winners honoured for their unique and innovative engineering applications, as well as social, economic and sustainable contributions to the community and future value to the engineering profession.

PCNA is the first major business to locate at the 130-acre site of a former manufacturing assembly plant near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Amec Foster Wheeler has a long history at the site. Its contribution includes reviewing environmental investigation information for the site, developing an environmental strategy and risk-based technical corrective action approach under the Georgia Voluntary Brownfield Program, and designing and overseeing the soil remediation of 34 areas from contaminants above state-regulated clean-up standards.

After PCNA purchased a portion of the site to develop its $100 million North American headquarters, Amec Foster Wheeler served as their geotechnical and environmental consultant for the new facility, providing due diligence services associated with site selection, design and contractor selection, and special inspections and materials testing during construction.

We are proud to contribute to a development project that has the potential to enhance Metro Atlanta’s position as a global economic leader. Winning the Grand Prize award is an honour and a testament to our commitment to delivering excellence for our customers and communities.
