Accelerating zero-emission mobility
As the world acts to systematically reduce the consumption of fossil fuels on the journey to a net-zero future, a major revamp of urban mobility will serve as a catalyst to unlock sustainable communities. When it comes to reducing emissions, zero-emission mobility can be a gamechanger for creating thriving cities with enhanced transportation solutions. This transformation is becoming more attainable through environment focused policies, increasingly progressive mindsets, advancing technology and favourable economics.
Wood appoints Global Technical Director of Zero-Emission Mobility
Wood has appointed Naeem Farooqi as Global Technical Director of Zero-Emission Mobility to further accelerate its role in urban mobility, decarbonisation and transportation markets.
Wood’s Zero-Emission Mobility team is focused on solving challenges and delivering roadmaps for fleet electrification as more countries set ambitious decarbonisation targets and look to shift transport fleets to zero-emissions vehicles.
Now more than ever, we need to build connected, resilient and livable shared spaces fit for the future to protect what we value most: people.
As we celebrate #WorldCitiesDay and enter two weeks of strategic climate conversations at #COP26, we’re thinking differently, evolving, innovating and pioneering digital solutions that will decarbonise communities and enabling smarter #cities.
From enabling climate adaptation strategies to achieve #netzero outcomes to urban carbon footprint monitoring, or from digitally forecasting extreme flooding to creating zero emission simulators for electric fleets, check out some of our solutions that are changing the world.
Wood strengthens leadership team with new Executive President of People & Organisation
Wood today announces the appointment of Lesley Birse as Executive President of People & Organisation (P&O). Lesley assumes the new role having previously worked as President of Wood’s global Operations business unit. She brings over 20 years of global HR experience and a passion for harnessing the potential of people to deliver strategic business outcomes.
Transformational technology to put air travel on a flight path towards a net-zero future
Huge advances have been made in the electrification of cars using batteries. Manufacturers globally are re-writing business plans and transforming their factories to assemble models for a world where the electric car replaces the internal combustion engine.
But where batteries fall short is in the heavy transport and aviation sectors. Earlier this year, the UK aviation industry reaffirmed its joint commitment to net-zero by setting out its first interim decarbonisation milestones. These targets show the sector’s clear intention to drive rapid decarbonisation with a 15% reduction in emissions by 2030 and 40% by 2040. To achieve these ambitious goals, ingenuity in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is vital to provide a viable, near-term solution that can build early momentum.
Turning the tide on the pandemic’s plastic waste in support of Sustainable Development Goal No. 12
Face masks are one of the most defining symbols of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this iconic sign of our times is exacerbating another crisis: plastic pollution.
Globally, 129 billion face masks – mostly single-use masks made from plastic microfibers – are used every month as a preventive measure to stop the spread of the virus. Yet, the improper disposal of face masks coupled with ineffective waste management is leading to rising levels of marine debris.
Enabling the hydrogen economy: Painting the picture with hydrogen
Hydrogen is creating an unstoppable momentum towards a net-zero future, but do you really understand how hydrogen is enabling the energy transition?
In our first podcast episode of ‘Enabling the Hydrogen Economy’ series, Wood experts help paint the picture for hydrogen by simplifying the rhetoric as they discuss its uses, the technology and how we can accelerate its journey.
