In February 2018, the Massy Wood joint venture team was contracted to execute engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning for topsides of Shell Trinidad and Tobago’s Block 5C in the East Coast Marine Area (ECMA).

Known as Project Barracuda, this is a backfill project, one of Shell’s largest in Trinidad and Tobago, and it will deliver gas both domestically and internationally through Atlantic LNG improving access to secure and affordable energy.

The project achieved first gas in July 2021, amid the COVID-19 pandemic during which the team operated through public health restrictions, border closures and remote working.

The project team comprised colleagues from Trinidad and Tobago, United States, and India, who collaborated brilliantly to execute the topsides scope. This included a sub-cellar deck extension, TUTA and HPU installation, chemical injection skid package installation, flowline flooding and flushing, new HIPPS and piping assembly, umbilical flushing and displacement, and hookup and commissioning.

Joel Guness, Massy Wood Barracuda Project Manager shared: “My sincere gratitude to all involved in achieving this major milestone. The incredible effort and sacrifice made by the team to ensure the safe delivery of Barracuda over a period that included some unprecedented challenges is a great accomplishment and well recognized.”
