Wood is leading the advancement of sustainable public transportation for the municipalities of Charlottetown, Stratford and Cornwall in Prince Edward Island, Canada.

The tri-municipal transit service, managed by the three municipalities and operated by transportation company T3 Transit, includes a current fleet of 14 diesel buses that transports people throughout the capital region of Prince Edward Island.

Wood’s team of public transportation infrastructure experts will use Wood’s cloud-based transit simulation app, ZeroEmissionSimTM, to develop an energy transition plan to replace the current fleet with electric vehicles and review options for possible future expansion.

The team of specialists will advise on the selection and design of infrastructure, suitable vehicle specifications, electric facility requirements and charging facilities and equipment to develop a roadmap for full project execution.

“We are delighted to assist the municipalities as they invest in Prince Edward Island’s future with energy efficient public transportation,” said Naeem Farooqi, Global Technical Director of Zero-Emission Mobility for Wood’s environmental consultancy business. “Our history of delivering mobility solutions and our digital simulator will provide the project with multiple scenarios before selecting a tailored and cost-effective plan for these communities. We look forward to building a long-term partnership with these Island municipalities on their journey to net-zero emissions.”

In addition to supporting Canada’s goal of net-zero emissions by 2050, the implementation of electric vehicles improves the quality of life of passengers and residents by reducing noise and air pollutions in busy city centers.

By working directly with qualified consultants in this area, we are eager to learn about the new technology available to us as we look to move to a cleaner, more environmentally friendly transit system.”
