The Wood Brazil team recently welcomed five young people from the non-profit organization, Dream, Learn, Work at the Rio de Janeiro office.   A few weeks later, they hosted over 16 young Brazilians at a work site in Macaé.

The organization has been a partner of Wood Brazil for over three years.  Their goal is to provide youth from low socio-economic areas opportunities for a better future through education and employment.

At each visit, the young people were able to learn about Wood, the oil & gas industry, and the current job market.  At the Rio de Janeiro office visit, Natália Silva, a human resources coordinator, and Ana Cecilia Xavier, senior communications analyst, organized the visit and led the group.  The participants were presented with information about careers, writing a curriculum vitae, finding a job, and interviewing.

The Macaé work site visit was focused on operational and manufacturing activities to show the young people various career paths in action.  Nayara Silva, a human resources analyst, helped Cecilia answer recruitment questions about multiple roles.  Luiz Santos, Wood Brazil planning technician, took the young people for a guided tour, introduced them to professionals, and worked with them to ask questions about the profession and work site.

“It is always a gratifying honor to work with Dream, Learn, Work.  They are doing fantastic things for these youngsters to help them better and advance themselves through work and education,” said Cecilia Xavier.

Dream Learn Work was founded in 2007 to educate young Brazilians from less developed areas and give them a better chance for a brighter future through education and training while contributing to meeting companies’ recruitment needs of a lack of qualified personnel.  Their mission is two-fold: help young people from low socio-economic backgrounds and help Brazil develop and educate skilled candidates.

Jhonantan Mier, the project coordinator for Dream Love Work, is grateful to Wood for being a partner and advocate tow these young individuals.

“Their kindness and spontaneity broke the ice quickly. The youngsters asked many questions and had all their doubts answered by great professionals with much knowledge and experience,” Jhonantan said.  “We want to thank Wood and all the professionals that welcomed us, for their hospitality and collaboration in the evolution of our participants.

“Both visits were filled with sharing and interactions. These interactive activities with our participants are fundamental for their contact with a different professional from the offshore & onshore industry and the labor market in general. They are strengthening their networking and interpersonal skills as well.”
